Blue Thunder stops Bucs' rivalry hot streak



BELVIDERE, ILLINOIS - The Belvidere North Blue Thunder defeated the Belvidere Bucs Saturday in the annual “Cross Town Rivalry” held at Milt Brown Stadium Saturday, 41-20.

The game began on Friday night. North led 7-0, but the game was suspended with just over five minutes remaining in the first quarter due to lightning in the area. Play was resumed on Saturday night.

With the win, the Blue Thunder stopped a Buc four-game win streak in the rivalry, which began in 2007 when North was opened as a high school. The Bucs lead the series, 5-3.

In other NIC-10 varsity football action, Boylan, Harlem, Hononegah and Guilford started the 2014 prep season with wins.The Bucs will host the Jefferson J-Hawks Sept. 5th at Funderberg Stadium during Senior Night. The J-Hawks lost to the Guilford Vikings, 35-20.

In Friday's sophomore contest, Belvidere's outdistanced North, 38-29.

The freshman contest between both teams ended in a 14-14 tie.
