BELVIDERE, ILLINOIS – What a difference a week makes.

On Senior/Parent Night, it wasn’t a repeat of last week, not by weather or the outcome, although for a while it looked like rain would be a factor again. It wasn’t. The Belvidere Bucs got on track in the 2014 season by defeating the Jefferson J-Hawks in NIC-10 varsity football action at Funderburg Stadium, 41-0.

The Bucs had defeated Jefferson in 2013 by a score of 43-8. This year they shut out the J-Hawks, racking up 34 points by halftime.

Belvidere quarterback Colton Bahling had five rushing touchdowns.

The Bucs find themselves “in the hunt” this early in the season with a 1-1 record. There are four teams remaining with 2-0 records.

The NIC-10 took an interesting turn Friday night, with an upset win by Hononegah (2-0) as they lost a lead then came back to defeat the Boylan Titans (1-1), 35-34.

Belvidere climbs to 1-1 in conference play, while the J-Hawks drop to 0-2. Belvidere stays at home next Friday when they face the Auburn Knights (0-2). North beat Auburn 17-7.

In other NIC-10 action, Harlem (2-0) defeated Rockford East’s E-Rabs (0-2), 34-0, Guilford (2-0) edged Freeport (0-2) 40-33.

In the sophomore contest, Belvidere remained unbeaten by beating  Jefferson, 34-0.
